Cyber Monday 2019: What is Cyber Monday and what can you expect?
By now, we all know about Black Friday, but what is Cyber Monday, and what do you need to know?
This year, Black Friday is on Friday 29th November, but the deals will keep coming until Cyber Monday, which falls on Monday 2nd December 2019. In the two weeks leading up the Black Friday you’ll start spotting deals at your favourite brands like Boots, Debenhams and Halfords. These deals will get better and better until Black Friday itself.
But they don’t end there. These days, the deals will keep dropping over the Black Friday weekend up until Cyber Monday. Although the offers will have died down at some retailers by Cyber Monday, many big brands still have great savings to be snapped up.
How did Cyber Monday start?
Cyber Monday was originally created to encourage people to shop online. It may seem silly now considering how many of us choose to shop online rather than brave the crowds, but back in 2005 when it made its debut it was still a relatively new concept. It falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving, which this year is Monday 2nd December. Like Black Friday, Cyber Monday has made the journey over the pond, and its popularity has continued to grow year by year, particularly with smaller ecommerce sites.
What’s the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday was created around the popularity of the Black Friday sales. While Black Friday is always the day after Thanksgiving, Cyber Monday is on the Monday after Thanksgiving, stretching out the sales over the weekend.
Whereas Black Friday deals can be found both online and in-stores, Cyber Monday deals are only available online. It also only lasts the day and is the grand finale of the Black Friday shopping bonanza.
There isn’t a huge difference in which day is better for deals. Black Friday may have a slight edge as it lasts longer, but similar discounts will be available on Cyber Monday, if only for a limited time. Ultimately both sales events blend into one, and with new deals dropping all the time you’re sure to nab great bargains throughout the sales period.
What deals can you expect in 2019?
There’s even more hype than usual this year due to Black Friday falling on payday weekend, which means both sales events are going to be huge. Cyber Monday 2018 saw some fantastic deals on top tech and gadgets. Last years top deals included a 50% discount on the Samsung Sound+ all-in-one soundbar from Currys, 50% off the Amazon Echo Dot at Amazon and 45% off the Bose QuietComfort 25 wired headphones at Argos.
This year we predict there to be some amazing discounts on the highly sought after AirPods now they’ve been around for a few months. Right now they sell for around £150, so the discounts will be more than welcome!
You can also expect to see plenty of console deals for the PS4 and Xbox One as a new generation of gaming consoles will be coming out soon, as well as savings on the iPhone XR. You’ll also find great deals on TVs, laptops and PCs, making it the perfect time to upgrade your tech.
